Funeral Services for Thomas James Prestridge of Milton, Florida, are 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Jones Family Funeral Home with burial in Hollywood Cemetery. There will not be a graveside service. The Rev. Ken Maxwell will officiate. Jones Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, from 1 until time of service at Jones Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Prestridge, 92, died Aug. 10, 2014. He was born on Aug. 21, 1921, in Lincoln County to Ford James Prestridge and Jannie Bernice Whittington Prestridge, their eldest son.
Mr. Prestridge graduated from Bogue Chitto High School in 1940. He was a member of the Greatest Generation proudly and faithfully serving four years in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Prestridge retired from Genuine Parts in 1987. He was a member for many years of Williams Blvd. Baptist Church in Kenner, Louisiana.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his precious wife, Frances Hart Prestridge; one sister, Marjie Prestridge Phillips; and one brother, Joe Ray Prestridge; and extraordinary pastor and friend, Dr. Buford G. Easley.
Survivors are his daughter, Cathy P. Maxwell and husband, Ken, of Milton, Florida; two grandchildren, Ken Maxwell and wife, Molly, of Milton, Florida and Kacie McGar and husband, Scott, of Macclenny, Florida; five adored great-grandchildren, Abigail McGar, Grace Maxwell, Zeke Maxwell, Max McGar and Ellie Maxwell; three sisters-in-law, Mae Hart and Florence Hart, both of Summit and Betty Prestridge of Augusta, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Dr. Morris Phillips of Monroe, Louisiana; one adopted granddaughter, Sonya Easley Mazzella of Destrehan, Louisiana; and innumerable extended family and friends.
