BA Lady Cougars capture a split

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars captured a split last week in MAIS softball action. The Lady Cougars defeated the Jackson Victor 11-3 Tuesday and lost to Simpson 4-0 last Friday.
BA (7-8) will be in action today as they prepare to host Prentiss Christian for a big district contest. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m.

Alex Rae Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with five strikeouts and five walks.
Anna Smith powered BA’s offense at the plate with two singles. Anna Grace Covington provided a double. Hitting safely were Olivia Thornton, Amanda Rushing and Smith.
In junior varsity action, BA and Victor finished the contest in a 3-all tie.
Madi Smith (1K, 3BB) and Covington (3K, 1BB) pitched in the contest for BA.
Olivia Lewis and Maura Dunaway paced the Lady Cougars at the plate with a single each.
Simpson 4, BA 0
Alex Rae Smith suffered the setback on the mound for the Lady Cougars with five strikeouts, three walks and two hit batters.
Anna Smith recorded the only hit for BA’s offense with a single.
In JV action, BA crushed Simpson Acad. 9-3.
Madi Smith pitched the win for BA with five strikeouts and three walks. Abeni Fuller (0K, 0BB) also saw some action in relief.
Covington was the top hitter for Lady Cougars with two singles. Amanda Rushing had a triple. Hitting safely were Abeni Fuller, Sadie Corbin, Cameron Watson, Elizabeth Case and Jessica Wallace.
