LIBERTY – The Brookhaven Lady Cougars snapped a four-game losing skid Tuesday night after knocking off the Amite School Center Lady Rebels 9-7 in MAIS fastpitch softball district action.
“We had 9-1 lead through three innings of action, but ASC is too strong of a program to lay down, so the momentum switched directions in the bottom of the fourth,” said BA coach Becky Flowers. “We lost our focus in the fourth and gave up some hits. Our pitching (Alex Rae Smith) was strong and she hit her spots which allowed us to make plays.” The game was ended on a fly ball to right fielder Maura Dunaway and she threw out the runner at the plate for the final out. Overall, I am just glad to get the win!”
The Lady Cougars (9-12, 2-1) will have the rest of the week off before returning to action Tuesday as they prepare to host the Central Hinds Lady Cougars for a big district contest. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 5:30 p.m..
