Lawrence Co. crushes South Pike

MONTICELLO-Lawrence County hammered South Pike 16-0 in slow-pitch softball action Thursday night, at LCHS. The game was the first division contest for both teams.

Lawrence County exploded for 5 runs in the first, 8 in the second, and 3 more in the third. The game was halted after that. With the win, Meleah Howard’s girls improved to 6-2 overall, and 1-0 in the division, with a big division contest coming next Tuesday night, at North Pike.

The Lady Cougars got 2 hits each from Callie Fortenberry and Madison Hyde. Jamie Martin added a double. Cierra Horton, Cheyenne Long, Maddux Kirkland, and Barri Rogers also hit for Lawrence County. The Lady Cougars benefited from 8 South Pike errors.

South Pike managed just 1 base runner in the 3-inning game, that came on a first-inning single by Ada Smith. No Lady Eagle got past first base. LCHS pitcher Barri Rogers effectively threw strikes, allowing no bases on balls.
