Green Wave drowns Bobcats

NATCHEZ – The Natchez Cathedral Green Wave defeated the Bogue Chitto Bobcats 52-17 Friday night in opening Region 4-1A action at D’Evereaux Stadium.
Cathedral’s high octane offense came out of the gates scoring and did not stop as the Bobcats’ offense struggled to get things going in the first quarter. The Green Wave was able to score three touchdowns in the first six-minutes of the ballgame.
The Bobcats did manage to get on the board late in first quarter on a field goal.
Bogue Chitto put together a late third quarter touchdown drive while Cathedral was were able to complete a late fourth quarter touchdown drive.
BC did put together a few good offensive drives but most ended with takeaways from Cathedral’s defense.
The Green Wave opened up the game with a four-play touchdown drive. Jardarius Anderson ended the drive with a 20-yard reception at the 11:20 mark. Nic Webb finished with a perfect seven-of-seven on the extra-point kicks.
The Bobcats turned the ball over when Tucker Lambert threw an interception at the 11:03 mark. After the turnover, Dee Fleming tacked on another touchdown with a 57-yard reception.
Kobe Roberts, for the Bobcats, had a big kickoff return to set up Cameron Price’s 32-yard field goal.
Christian Jenkins, for the Green Waves walked in the end zone on a two-yard run.
With 29 seconds left in the first quarter, the Green Wave was able to add another score when Christian Jenkins was able to get in the end zone on a 25-yard reception from Wyatt Boothe to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Green Wave continued to increase their lead when Quinton Logan cashed in a 40-yard run.
Cathedral’s defense was able to get the ball back in good field position on a blocked the punt attempt. The Bobcats managed to hold their ground and only gave up a Nick Webb 30-yard field goal.
The Bobcats offense did not stay on the field long when Tucker Lambert threw another interception at the 6:49 mark in the second quarter.
Late in the quarter, the Green Waves was able to increase their lead on a twp-yard run by RJ Givens.
The Bobcats defense was able to get off the field when Bo Smithers recovered a fumble. BC’s offense struggled to generate a spark after the fumble recovery as the Green Wave was able to get the ball back at 1:20 mark when the Bobcats failed to convert on fourth down.
After the Gold In Motion Dance line entertained the crowd with their performance at halftime, the Bobcats was able to add to their score in the second half when Dee Dillon caught a 30-yard pass and Cameron Price kicked the extra point.
Cathedral’s coaching staff was able to put in their younger players to give them some playing experience.
In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats scored again when Kobe Roberts found the end zone on a three-yard run up the middle.
Cathedral answered the Bobcats’ challenge as Owen Thibodeaux got into the end zone on a 15-yard run.
Wyatt Boothe completed seven out of eight passes for 174 yards to lead Cathedral’s offense. Christian Jenkins paced the ground attack with seven rushes for 40 yards. Dee Fleming directed Cathedral’s receiving core with two catches for 83 yards. Jardarious Anderson had two catches for 35 yards. R.J. Givens had two catches for 54 yards.
BC offense was directed by Tucker Lambert completing only seven of his 20 attempts for 83 yards and three interceptions. Lambert also had 14 carries for 38 yards.
Kobe Roberts was the top rusher 10 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown. Dee Dillon was the leading receiver with four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Kobe Roberts, Devin McEwen, and Devaris Bullock paced the Bobcats with five tackles each. Kody Halford contributed with four tackles.
