SEMINARY – The Wesson Cobras traveled south to face the Seminary Bulldogs Friday night and suffered an upsetting 34-6 loss in high school football action.

“I am very disappointed with our team’s performance,” said Cobra coach Ronald Greer. “Seminary’s defense smothered us, and we never got anything going. Our defense did not play with the intensity needed to stop a good Seminary offense.”

The Bulldogs started the game off by scoring on their first possession of the game after the Cobras fumbled the ball on their own 12-yard line. Seminary took over and Juwan Hahn ran for the end zone to put the first points on the scoreboard. Kicker Tyler Charpentier made the extra point bringing the score to 7-0 Bulldogs.

Seminary scored again when Eric Barnes sprinted over 50 yards bringing the score to 14-0.

Wesson gained some momentum toward the end of the first quarter when Dartavious Dixon caught a pass from quarterback Peyton Burns to bring the Cobras within scoring range. Wesson’s Michael Hauer ran the ball to the end zone on the next play bringing the score to 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Seminary’s Barnes and Jamaal Booth slipped past Wesson’s defense to score two more touchdowns. Charpentier was one-of-two 1 for 2 on the extra point kicks.

On Wesson’s next possession, quarterback Burns pulled off a reversal with a hand off to Jermaine James then to Dixon. Justin Boone provided a critical block to clear the way for the Cobra offense. The play continued with complete passes to Wesson’s Kendrick Brown and Farrod Green, but Wesson fumbled the ball. Seminary recovered the ball and ended the first half with a score of 27-6 at halftime.

After halftime, Seminary came back strong with another touchdown on their first possession with Barnes scoring his third touchdown for the night. The game was called midway through the third quarter with 8:38 left on the scoreboard due to lightening. Giving the win to the Bulldogs with a final score of Seminary 36, Wesson 6.

The Cobras finished with 24 yards rushing on 16 carries. Backup quarterback Peyton Burns was six-of-eight in passing for 50 yards. Wesson fumbled the ball three times and lost it twice.

Defensively, Kendrick Brown paced the Cobras with four tackles and one quarterback sack.

Wesson will welcome the North Pike Jaguars to Stone Stadium for homecoming next Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
