MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars captured a pair of victories over the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats Thursday night in slowpitch softball action.

The Lady Cougars knocked off the Lady Cats 16-3 in a early make up contest that was postponed earlier in the season due to rain. In game two in varsity action, Lawrence County defeated Bogue Chitto 12-2 in six innings of action.

“I was very pleased with the way we hit the ball tonight,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “Defensively, we were solid. We are starting to play together as a team, which is really great as we prepare for the playoffs.”

The LCHS Lady Cougars (16-4, 3-1) will continue action Saturday as they will be participating in Bogue Chitto softball tournament. Lawrence County plays West Lincoln at 9:15 a.m., Wesson at 11:45 a.m. and Amite Count at 1 p.m.

The Lady Cats (14-8, 4-0) will start their tournament with an early contest against Wesson at 8 a.m., before resuming action again against Amite County at 3:30 and Franklin County at 6 p.m.

Lawrence Co. 16, Bogue Chitto 3 

Barri Rogers pitched the win for LCHS with one strikeout and no walks.

Brooke Myers suffered the setback for BC with no strikeouts and three walks.

Zariah Matthews, Christian Black and Colby Kirkland paced the Lady Cats offense with a pair of singles each. Hitting safely were Terrah Nelson, Brooke Myers and Cherie Savoie.

Callie Fortenberry powered the Lady Cougars at the plate with four singles. Madison Hyde contributed three singles. Tiera Collins provided a double and a single. Alexsundria Thomas had two singles. Cierra Horton ripped a double. Jamie Martin, Cheyenne Long, Lexie Johnson and Barri Rogers hit safely.

Lawrence Co 12, Bogue Chitto 2 

Rogers captured her second straight win on the mound for LCHS with two strikeouts and one walk.

Myers absorbed the setback for Bogue Chitto with no strikeouts and three walks.

Myers, Nelson, Matthews directed the Lady Cats charge at the plate with two singles apiece. Hitting safely were Mallory Allen, Alana Nettles, and Baileigh Jackson and Black.

“Lawrence County came out and really hit the ball well,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “We hit the ball okay at times but not together.”

Johnson was the top hitter for the Lady Cougars with a double and two singles. Martin and Hyde provided three single each. Collin contributed a double and a single. Maddux Kirkland, Karli Bass, Thomas, Long and Fortenberry hit safely.

In JV action, Bogue Chitto edge Lawrence Co. 1-0.

T’Asia Black and Cherie Savoie lead BC’s offense with a single apiece. Lawrence County received a single each from Sydney Pevey, Jordan Harpe and Abbey Turnage.
