Eagles soar past Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO – The Resurrection Eagles defeated the Bogue Chitto Bobcat 69-8 in Region 4-1A action Friday night at Troy Smith field.

Bogue Chitto enter into Friday’s contest looking for their first win in region action but was unsuccessful against Resurrection. Coach Sartin and his Bobcats got the ball to begin the game and were hoping to score first to get an early jump on the Eagles. To begin the contest, the Bobcats got their first first down of the game, but just like all season, BC would shoot themselves in the foot when the center snapped the ball over the quarterback’s head. The Bobcats quickly recovered and fall on the ball to fight another day.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats started deep in Eagles’ territory and were able to run the ball on the ground for positive yardage. After a bad snap, the Bobcats’ offense could not advance the ball, so they elected to punt the ball to the Eagles.

Resurrection came out of the gates firing on all cylinders and in four plays they found the end zone. Patrick Watts got the Eagles on the board first when he scored on a 1-yard carry. Larry Sisson found the end zone on the 2-point conversion.

At the 5:58 mark, the Bobcats would shoot themselves in the foot once again when they turned over the ball on the ground. Nic Graham for the Eagles recovered the fumble. After the turnover, Resurrection capitalized on BC’s mistake and scored. Darius Kennedy had a 50-yard touchdown catch and Whit Davis extra point kick was good.

The Bobcats started to have some positive plays when they handed the ball off to Kobe Roberts, and he ran hard for some big chunk of yards. With 30 seconds to go in the first quarter, Kobe Roberts found the endzone on a 2-yard run. The Bobcats went for the two-point conversion and were successful.

In the second quarter, it was all the Resurrection Eagles. The Bobcats tried an onside kick but failed to recover it. After the onside kick, the Eagles were set up in good field position. Resurrection’s Troy Cobb found the end zone three times in the second quarter. Cobb scored on an 11-yard run, and he caught two touchdown passes of 71 and 60 yards. Whit Davis was successful in all three extra point attempts.

At the 2:58, Christian Miller for the Eagles intercepted the football to set up the Eagles offense for another score. To end the half, Darius Kennedy found the end zone on a 45-yard touchdown reception.

In the second half, Resurrection continued their offensive onslaught as Patrick Watts scored on a 2-yard run, and Davis’s kick was good. The Bobcats turned the ball over on downs. Steven Matta found the end zone twice on a 2-yard run and a 9-yard run, but the Bobcats only made one of two extra point tries. To end the game Resurrection intercepted the ball and ended up in a victory formation to kneel the ball.

Offensively for BC, Sherman Jackson ran 13 times for 52 yards. Connor Douglas had 12 carries for 36 yards. Kobe Roberts had 8 rushes for 62 yards.

Connor Douglas completed 4 of 8 passes for 16 yards. Grant Leake completed three of six for 29 yards. Dee Dillon caught four passes for 16 yards. Kody Halford had two catches for 9 yards. D.J. Nunnery had a catch for 20.

Defensively for the Bobcats, D.J. Nunnery and Bo Smithers led the team with six tackles apiece. Will Fauver contributed five stops. Brandon McKenzie and Devin McEwen had four tackles each.

The Bobcats will return to next Friday as they prepare to host Lumberton Panthers at Troy Smith Field starting at 7 p.m.
