Lady Cobras clobber South Pike

MAGNOLIA- The Wesson Lady Cobras traveled down to Magnolia to play South Pike Lady Eagles Thursday night for a non-divisional contest. The Lady Cobras clobbered the Lady Eagles 22-0 in four innings of action concluding the regular season on a winning note.

The Lady Cobras (12-13, 6-0) will return to action Tuesday as they prepare to start their march in the state playoff. Wesson will host Philadelphia in a best of three series for the first round, starting at 5 p.m.

Wesson ran the bases with big hits and took advantage of several errors by South Pike. Winning pitchers were Riley Smith with one strike out and Kaitlyn Smith with two strikeouts.

Smith was also the big hitter of the night with three singles. Amber Brinson (RBI-3), Abby Meredith (RBI-2) and Cheyenne Gladden (RBI-1) all hit a triple and a single each. Aurianna Vaughn (RBI-4), Madison Jones (RBI-2) and Brooke Jones (RBI-2) all hit two singles.

The Cobras played top defense with Melody Ashley getting three outs on first base and two assists.

In JV action,  The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Eagles Thursday afternoon with a final score of 15-2.

Winning pitcher, Riley Smith, had 3 strikeouts and was the big hitter with double and a single that averaged RBI-1. A’rie Douglas also pitched the fourth inning and had one strikeout.

Anna Claire Crow (RBI-2) and Natalie Bonds (RBI-2) both hit two singles. Shaylin Green was the top defender with five outs at first base.

Jerrica Weary was South Pike’s top player with a double and she scored the only run of the game.
