Pisgah blanks Bogue Chitto

SANDHILL – The Pisgah Dragons defeated the Bogue Chitto Bobcats in an non-divisional contest last Friday night.

The Bobcats were searching for their second win of the season as Coach Sartin and his team were hoping to go up to Pisgah and come out with a victory, but that was not the case. The Bobcats remained scoreless in a 50-0 shutout by Pisgah.

Both teams had some good offensive positions, but the Dragons executed better than the Bobcats. Pisgah put together some very long touchdown runs in the first quarter to secure an early lead and did not look back.

In the opening quarter, Pisgah got the ball first and had two big first down runs by TJ McGinnis to put the Dragons deep into Bobcats’ territory. Bogue Chitto’s defense did manage to hold their ground and caused a fumble as D.J. Nunnery for the Bobcats recovered the football.

On the first offensive play for the Bobcats, the ball was snapped over the quarterback’s head and Don Ragsdale for Pisgah recovered the football in the endzone for a Pisgah touchdown. Haden Miller kicked the PAT for the Dragons.

The Bobcats continued to struggle offensively on their next possession because at the 8:26 mark of the first quarter, BC ended up fumbling the ball and the Dragons recovered it.

Bogue Chitto’s defense managed hold their ground and force the Dragons to attempt a long 43-yard field goal, which was no good. After getting the ball back with good field position, the Bobcats could not capitalize and was forced to punt the ball back to the Dragons.

Before the conclusion of the first quarter, Pisgah’s TJ McGinnis sprint in a 70-yard touchdown run and Miller’s kick was good as the Dragons lead 14-0 over BA after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, Pisgah defense stiffed up and managed to put the Bobcats in a tough spot. Coach Sartin and the Bobcats were forced to make a decision to either go for it on the fourth down or punt it back to Pisgah offense. The decision was made to go for it on fourth down. The Dragons’ defense showed up and denied BC from getting the first down.

The Pisgah offense came back on the field and mustered up another good offensive drive that was capped off by Kendarius Story finding the endzone on a one-yard carry and Haden Miller PAT was good.

BC would get the ball back for the second time of the second quarter, but the Pisgah defense stopped the Bobcats as Pisgah’s Tabaris Evans caught a interception at the 6:27 mark.

The Dragons’ offense was able to come back on the field with plenty of time to add to their lead as Don Ragsdale scored on a 40 yard carry and Miller’s PAT put the Dragons on top of the Bobcats 21-0 with 4:33 left to go before the half.

Kobe Roberts provided a big kickoff return to set the Bobcats up for a chance to score and cut the 21-0 deficit, but just like all season turnovers, it hurt the Bobcats. BC fumbled the ball and the Dragons recovered it.

Pisgah would take over on the 50 yard line and Averyon Harris would add to the Dragons’ lead on a 50 yard sprint and Miller’s PAT was good. The Bobcats had another shot to put points on the scoreboard with nine seconds left, but TJ McGinnis interception denied the attempt as the Dragons went into halftime with a 35-0 lead.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats captured the ball and struggled to get anything going offensively, so they had to punt the football away.

Pisgah drove the ball down the field and ate up some clock time. At the 3:33 mark, the Dragons’ offense mustered up a 4-yard run by their running back to get in the endzone and Miller’a PAT was good.

In fourth quarter, the Bobcats gave the ball back to the Pisgah Dragons by turning the ball over on downs. Jeffery Cole was able to find the endzone on a 16-yard run and the 2-point conversion attempt was good.

At the 2:00 minute mark, Coach Sartin called on freshman quarterback Tanner Gunther to muster up a good offensive drive to possibly put the Bobcats on the scoreboard. The first two offensive plays resulted in two fumbles, but the Bobcats were able to recover them. The Bobcats had one more play to score on a fourth down attempt, but the Pisgah defense forced them to turn the ball over on downs.

For the Bobcats offense, Sherman Jackson led with 15 carries for 64 yards. Kobe Roberts had three rushes for 22 yards. D.J. Nunnery had one carry for three yards. Connor Douglas was four of 16 passing for 33 yards and two interceptions. Dee Dillon caught three passes for 26 yards. Kobe Roberts had one catch for seven yards.

Defensively for the Bobcats, Kobe Roberts, Brandon McKenzie, and Sherman Jackson powered the team with six tackles each. Will Fauver contributed five tackles. Matthew Black had three stops. D.J. Nunnery had three tackles and a fumble recovery. Devaris Bullock provided two tackles. Trey Nettles had two tackles and a pass break-up. Bo Smithers had a tackle and caused a fumble.

The Bobcats return home to host the Bruins of Madison St. Joe next Friday at Troy Smith Field. Come out and support Coach Sartin and the Bogue Chitto Bobcats.
