Bruins defeat Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO – The Madison Saint Joseph Bruins defeated the Bogue Chitto Bobcats 48-14 in a non-division match up Friday night at Troy Smith Field.
The Bruins came into Troy Smith Field with a 3-6 overall record, and the Bobcats entered in with a 1-8 overall record as BC was searching to get their second win of the season. Bogue Chitto was unsuccessful once again.
In the first quarter, both teams had pair of punts to start the game off. Kobe Roberts got the offense going for the Bobcats when he found the end zone on a 76-yard touchdown run. Cameron Price’s kick was successful on the extra point.
Madison Saint Joseph answered BC’s challenge with a 4-yard touchdown run by Hunter Beene. Jay Newman kicked the extra point. At the 4:00 mark, the Bobcats punted the football back to the Bruins. St. Joe had a big return to set up an offensive drive that was capped off with a 19-yard touchdown run by Hunter Beene with Jay Newman kick unsuccessful.
With 46 seconds to go in the first quarter, the Bobcats punted the football back to the Bruins. Beene added to St. Joe’s lead after finding the endzone on a 41-yard touchdown run. The Bruins led the Bobcats 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats put the football on the ground and Saahdiq Charles for the Bruins recovered the fumble. At the 8:43 mark of the second quarter, the Bruins found the end zone when Dajour Evans scored on a 10-yard touchdown catch, and Jay Newman’s kick was good.
The Bruins’ defense stood their grounds and forced the Bobcats to turn the ball over on downs. Madison St. Joe found the end zone once again on an 8-yard run by Mason Fridge. Jay Newman’s kick was good. With 32 seconds to go in the half, Dajour Evans was able to come up with an interception to set up the Bruins with good field position for their offense to strike again. Mason Fridge scored from 40 yards out with Jay Newman kick was good.
In the second half, the Bobcats got the ball and were hoping they get something going on offense. Kobe Roberts provided a long run to set up the offense in good field position. Sherman Jackson found the end zone on a 9-yard run with Cameron Price kick successful.
The Bruins found the end zone again in the fourth quarter. Jo-Jo Gray Lewis scored on a long touchdown run with Jay Newman kick successful. Nathan Lancaster came up with an interception to set the Bruins offense up with good field position. The Bruins offense came on the field, but they kneel the ball three times to end the ballgame.
Offensively for the Bobcats, Kobe Roberts had six carries for 121 yards. Sherman Jackson had six carries for 18 yards. Connor Douglas had two carries for 3 yards. Connor Douglas completed six of his 21 passes for 40 yards. Dee Dillon had four catches for 22 yards. Kobe Roberts had two catches for 18 yards.
Defensively for the Bobcats, Brandon McKenzie led the team with nine tackles. Bo Smithers contributed with eight tackles. Matthew Black and Kobe Roberts had six tackles apiece. Eli Wallace and Jackson had five tackles each.
The Bobcats will travel to Walthall County next Friday to take on the Salem Wildcats for a Region 4-1A battle on Halloween.
