Co-Lin wins double overtime thriller; Lady Wolves feast on Baton Rouge

WESSON – The Co-Lin’s men’s basketball team capture their first win of the season as the Wolves (1-2) won a double-overtime 80-77 thriller over the Baton Rouge Bears in juco action Monday night at Mullen Gymnasium.

The women’s action, the Lady Wolves (3-0) came out on fire as they feast on the Lady Bears to gain a 94-48 victory.

Co-Lin will have the rest of the week off before returning to action next Monday. The Wolves and Lady Wolves will be participating in Southwest’s tournament and will take on Southern-Shreveport. Game time begins with the women’s contest at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.

Co-Lin 94, Baton Rouge 48 

The Lady Wolves came out of the gates on fire and dominated the Louisiana-based Lady Bears in the first half of action to secured a 42-18 advantage at halftime.

Co-Lin continued their hot shooting streak and aggressive defensive play in the second half to thump Baton Rouge 52-30 to secure the victory at 94-48.

The Lady Wolves provided a balance offensive attack as everyone on the roster scored. Claresa Banks led the charge with 18 points and nine rebounds. Toni Woods and Arnissayur Robinson contributed 10 points apiece. Woods helped on the boards and secured eight rebounds. Jamilah Sanders provided nine points. Alexis Collins and Kentija Tarleton netted eight points each.

Terriel Ross was the top scorer for the Lady Bears with 18 points. Lanae Bickham contributed 16 points and led on the boards with eight rebounds. Octavia Lawdins gathered seven rebounds.

Co-Lin 80, Baton Rouge 77 (2OT) 

The Wolves rallied back in the second half after trailing 31-26 at halftime and outscored the Bears 41-36 in the second frame to tied the contest at 67-all and force overtime.

In the first overtime, the Wolves and Bears fought hard in a defensive battle as both teams scored five points each to end the end in a 72-all tie again to force another overtime after five minutes of action.

In the second overtime, Co-Lin managed to take over the contest as the Wolves jumped out to an early 77-72 lead and held on in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Co-Lin had four players to secure in double figures as Darius Kennedy and Donte’ Watson led the team with 18 points each. Josh Washington scored 14 points and Haymer Jadarius netted 13 points. Kennedy and Jadarius powered the boards for the Wolves with six rebounds each. Jordan Lumpkin gathered five rebounds.

Erik Thomas pumped in a game-high double-double to lead the Bears with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Drexier Davis contributed 11 points.
