BA Cougars capture win over Colonels

GALLMAN – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars captured their first win of the season with a 47-38 victory over the Copiah Academy Colonels Thursday night in MAIS basketball action.

In the girls contest, the Lady Colonels tamed the Lady Cougars with a 66-13 win.

BA returns to action Tuesday night as they prepare to visit Centreville to play five games. Seventh grade action starts at 3:15 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity action.

Brookhaven Acad. 47, Copiah Acad. 38 

The Cougars came strong and dominated the first half of action to secure a 31-20 halftime lead.

In the second half, both teams battle back-and-forth in a defensive bout. The Cougars managed to secure their first win of the season even though the Colonels outscored BA 18-16 after halftime.

Senior forward Peyton Hood pumped in a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists to lead BA. Caleb Brown contributed 10 points, four assists and had five rebounds. Drake Flowers was the leader on the boards with 10 rebounds.

Austin Ragland was the top scorer for Copiah Academy with 10 points. Tyler Mangold netted eight points and Ryan Drew provided seven points.

Copiah Acad 66, Brookhaven Acad. 13 

Lindsey Walker powered the Lady Colonels with 15 points. Kaylie Carpenter, Micah Smith and Kamryn Vanlandingham contributed eight points apiece.

Leah Case paced the Lady Cougars on the court with nine points. Bailey Stewart and Sophie Wilson provided two points each. Stewart led on the boards for BA with three rebounds.
