The Loyd Star Hornets and Lady Hornets secured a sweep in Thursday night’s junior high basketball action.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Hornets (3-0) surfed the Lady Wave of Natchez Cathedral to claim a 33-23 victory.

In the boys’ contest, the Hornets (3-0) thumped Cathedral 54-18.

In the seventh grade basketball action, Cathedral claimed two victories. The Lady Green Wave won 19-14 over Loyd Star. In the boys contest, Cathedral defeated the Hornets 15-10.

Loyd Star 33, Cathedral 23 

Andrea Butler powered the Lady Hornets with 13 points. Christie Patterson scored eight points, and Johnna Norman had five points.

Mallory Hinson was the top scorer for the Lady Green Wave with seven points. Baylie Gramming contributed six points.

Loyd Star 54, Cathedral 18 

Dane Smith pumped in a game-high 14 points to lead Loyd Star. Zabien Price netted 13 points. Dylan Cade scored 10 points, and Jett Calcote had six points.

Tyrieu Lee directed Cathedral’s charge with eight points. Conner Murray provided five points.

Cathedral 19, Loyd Star 14 

Malori Cade was the top scorer for the Lady Hornets with four points. Whitney Watts and Carly Beth Wallace contributed three points each. Taylor Smith and Kelsie Foster scored two points apiece.

Madelyn Smith paced the Lady Green Wave with five points.

Cathedral 15, Loyd Star 10 

Tanner Watts led the Hornets with five points. Reese Dehart added four points, and Reborto Galindo chipped in one point.

Ben White was the top shooter for Cathedral with seven points, and Garrett Renfroe provided three points.
