BA Cougars clobber Copiah Academy, girls fall

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars roared past the Copiah Academy Colonels 58-12 Tuesday night in MAIS basketball action at John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In the girls contest, the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels defeated the Lady Cougars 58-14.

BA resumes action today as they prepare to visit Madison to take on the MRA Patriots for a pair of varsity games. Varsity action starts with the girls’ contest at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ game.

Brookhaven Acad. 58, Copiah Acad. 12 

The Brookhaven Academy boys basketball team came out and quickly took charge of the contest Tuesday night as they clobbered the Copiah Academy Colonels 22-2 in the first quarter and continued their strong surge in the second quarter for carry a 42-6 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Cougars slowdown their offensive scoring onslaught but still managed to outscore Colonels 16-6 in the final two frames of action.

Austin Smith powered BA’s offensive explosion with 17 points and three rebounds. Drake Flowers had a double-double performance for BA with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Peyton Hood chipped in with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Austin Ragland was the top scorer for the Colonels with four points. Tyler Mangold contributed three points.

Copiah Acad. 58, Brookhaven Acad. 14 

Kameryn Vanlandingham directed the Lady Colonels’ offense with a game-high 21 points in their victory over the Lady Cougars.

Edie Riley paced the Lady Cougars with five points.

In junior varsity girls action,  Copiah Academy defeated BA 37-27. Cameron Watts led the Lady Cougars with 11 points. Rachel Moore was the top scorer for the Lady Colonel with 14 points.
