Lady Hornets defeat LCHS kickers, Cougars nip Hornets

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets and the Lawrence County Cougars were victorious in soccer action Tuesday night at William E. “Sambo” Smith Field

The Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Cougars 3-1 in girls action.

In the boys contest, the Lawrence County Cougars edge the Hornets 2-1.

Loyd Star 3, Lawrence Co. 1 

It was another victory for the Lady Hornets against Lawrence County with Mallory Holden scoring two goals and Leslie Walker scoring one goal.

Ashlyn Locke powered the Lady Hornets with two assists. Amber Archer had had a great game with 11 take aways followed by Shelby Richardson with five. Star Thomas and Courtney Wyatt provided four take aways each. Goalie Polly Patterson made three saves.

Lawrence Co. 2, Loyd Star 1 

The Lawrence County Cougars beat the Hornet in a 2-1 contest. The Hornets fought hard, but were unable to pull out another win against the Cougars.

Senior Hornet Jordan Michel scored the only goal for Loyd Star. Lane Rogers provided 11 clearances for Loyd Star, followed by Brett Calcote with eight,

Dylan Smith and Cameron Smith with four take aways each.

In late results,  Loyd Star swept Lawrence County in a previous matchup in Monticello Thursday Nov. 20

Parker Flowers, Loyd Stars’ left forward, scored one goal at the end of regulation to tie the game and force overtime

In the overtime shootout, the Hornets won 3-2 with goals made by Connor Crosby, Payne Walker and Lane Rogers.

Brett Calcote, center defender, led Loyd Stars’ defense with 12 clearances followed by Lane Rogers with 11, Dylan Smith with nine and Cameron Smith with eight. Goalie Hayden Brownlee had eight saves.

The Lady Hornets beat Lawrence County with a 4-0 shut out. Goals were made by Mallory Holden, center forward, Madisyn Brister, right forward, Megyn Roads, right mid and Lesley Walker, center mid.

Shelby Richardson had 11 clearances followed by Amber Archer with 10 and Mikayla Warren with seven.
