Pillow gallops past BA

MADISON – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars suffered a tough 47-40 loss in Thursday night MAIS basketball action against Pillow Academy at Madison-Ridgeland Academy tournament.
In girls action, the Lady Mustangs defeated the Lady Cougars 38-20.
BA continues action Saturday as they travel to Natchez to take the Natchez Trinity Episcopal Saints for a pair of varsity games. The girls tip off at 1 p.m., followed by the boys contest.

The Mustangs and the Cougars fought in a even contest in the first quarter of action as Pillow held a 12-9 advantage.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs managed to pull away from BA with a 11-9 run to take a 23-18 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Pillow took control of the third quarter with a 15-9 run to command a 38-27 lead after three quarters of action.
In the final frame of action, the Cougars roared back with a 13-9 run, but fell short at the end.
Seniors Peyton Hood and Drake Flowers were the leader on the court for the Cougars with 12 points apiece. Hood secured a double-double performance on the night by grabbing 10 rebounds. Flowers had two rebounds, two steals and three assists. Ross Felder helped on the boards with five rebounds and had four points. Caleb Brown and Austin Smith netted six points each.
Raines Cook directed the Mustangs with 12 points. Bailey Mangrum and Dillon Ussery chipped in with eight points apiece.

Anna Kathryn Smith was the shooter for the Lady Cougars with seven points. Anna Michael Smith contributed four points.
