Lady Cats stomp Salem

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats stomped the Salem Lady Wildcats 76-38 in high school basketball action Monday night at the Bobcat Palace.

Bogue Chitto will take the rest of the week off before resuming action Friday as they welcome the Franklin County Bulldogs to town for two games. Varsity action begins with the girl game at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ contest.

The Lady Cats came out and quickly took care of business Monday night as they grabbed a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and continued to increase their lead in the second quarter with a 19-12 run to take a 34-20 lead into halftime.

In the second half, BC exploded in the third quarter with a 25-8 run to put the game out off reach and to take a 59-28 lead into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cats (12-2) outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-10 to secured the win.

Junior guard Zariah Matthews pumped in a game-high 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead five players scoring in double figures. Karlie Williams contributed 15 points. Christian Black provided 12 points. Shakirianna Jefferson added 11 points and Terrah Nelson scored 10 points and had 10 assists. Taneisha May netted six points.

Zoie Bridges was the top scorer for the Lady Wildcats with 20 points. Markeria Butler chipped in with 10 points.
