Memorial Services for JoBeth Byrd Abrams of Florence are 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at College Drive Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pearl. The pastor, Richie Halversen, will officiate. Chancellor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Abrams, 81, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at her residence.
She was a native of Beeville, Texas and spent most of her life in Brookhaven before moving to Florence where she has lived for many years. She was a graduate of Brookhaven High School and attended Mississippi State College for Women, Ole Miss University and received a master’s degree from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. She was one of 24 chosen across the country to participate in the Kellogg Institute in 1987 in conjunction with Appalachian State University in Boon, North Carolina.
Mrs. Abrams worked with the Division of Continuing Education of Jackson State University for the GED program. She went on to work at Copiah County School District teaching English. After retiring, she substituted for the Rankin County and Pearl School Districts.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe P. and Elizabeth Byrd; sister, Mary Virginia; brothers, Joseph Scott and Johnny Preston Byrd.
Survivors are her son, Karl (Andrea) Abrams of Erlangen, Germany; daughters, Kelly Anne Abrams (Robert) Schaefer of Concord, California and Angie Sullivan (Gary) Bowman of Florence; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
