Miss. Laird, 67, died Jan. 4, 2015, at Haven Hall Healthcare Center. She was born on Sept. 27, 1947, to David W. Laird and Eva Nell Smith Laird.
After living in many states while her dad was stationed in the United States Air Force, the family returned to Brookhaven in 1965. She began working at King’s Daughters Medical Center in the late 1960s and continued to work there for 25 years until her retirement. She loved her hospital family and was named employee of the year in 1992.
Having no children of her own, she doted on her many nieces, nephews and children of her church family. She was always quick to say yes to baby sitting and enjoyed working with the children during Vacation Bible School. Friends and relatives could always count on a birthday or anniversary card from Linda, as she began her own card ministry years ago. She was an active member of Brookway Church of Christ, as long as her health allowed.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her grandparents, J.B. and Mamie Laird and Rudolph and Bonnie Mae Smith; and her brother, David Brian Laird.
Survivors are her brother, Kevin Laird and wife, Robin; her sister, Wanda Laird Griffin and husband, Howard, all of Brookhaven; her nephews and nieces, Tre’ Griffin and his wife, Amy, of Brookhaven, Jeff Griffin and his wife, Kaci, of Richland, Melanie Griffin Rayborn and husband, Ben, of Jayess, Shawn Tolbert and his wife, Stefani, of Sanford, North Carolina and Shay Laird of Atlanta, Georgia; her uncle, Joel Sherman Smith and his wife, Elaine, of Brookhaven; her great nieces and nephews, Ben, Will, Dillon, Courtney, Ryan, Cadie, Hunter, Garrett, Carter and Hannah, and many cousins; and her Haven Hall Nursing Center and Deaconess Hospice families and staff who so lovingly cared for her in the last year.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Berean Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1009, Brookhaven, MS 39602
