Lady Wolves crush Baton Rouge, men fall

BATON ROUGE – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves began the second-half of their season on a good note as they crushed the Baton Rouge Lady Bears 74-39 in JUCO basketball action Tuesday night at Baton Rouge.

In the men’s contest, the Wolves suffered a tough 67-60 loss to the Baton Rouge Bears.

Co-Lin will take the rest of the week off, before returning to action Monday as they welcome division rival Jones County to Mullins Gymnasium. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.

Co-Lin 74, Baton Rouge 39 

The Lady Wolves (11-0) quickly knock off the holiday rust to remain undefeated on the season as they mauled the Louisiana-based Lady Bears to take a 41-21 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Wolves continued to overpowered Baton Rouge as they outscored the Lady Bears 32-18 to claim the victory.

Claresa Banks powered the Lady Wolves surge with 19 points and five rebounds. Alexis Collins contributed nine points and grabbed four rebounds. Kelley Allen also scored nine points and had six rebounds. Toni Woods was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds.

Lanae Bickham was the top scorer for the Lady Bears with 11 points. Amari Banks provided nine points. Octavia Lawdins paced the Lady Bears on the boards with 10 rebounds and scored six points.

Baton Rouge 67, Co-Lin 60 

In the men’s contest, the Baton Rouge Bears capitalized on Co-Lin’s holiday rust as they overpowered the Wolves early to take a 37-23 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Wolves (2-9) managed to find their offensive rhythm late in the contest to outscored the Bears 37-30, but fell short on their rally attempt.

The Wolves had three players to score in double figures as Terry Morris led the charge with 13 points. Donte Watson contributed 12 points and collected six rebounds. Jordan Lumpkin provided 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Dearius Griffin scored nine points.

Damian Young paced the Baton Rouge Bears with 15 points. Erik Thomas chipped in with 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jordan Gaither provided 11 points and had six rebounds.
