The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars were victorious in district action Tuesday night as they swept the Amite School Center Rebels at John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In the girls game, the Lady Cougars clobbered the Lady Rebels 46-20.

In boys action, the Cougars roared past the Rebels to gain a 51-28 victory.

Brookhaven Academy resumes action Friday as they travel to Prentiss to take on the Prentiss Christian Saints for six games in more division action. The junior high games are set to start at 3 p.m., followed by the varsity games in the nightcap.

Brookhaven Acad. 46, ASC 20 

The Lad Cougars (6-16, 3-1) quickly took care of business Tuesday night as they dominated the Lady Rebels in the first half to take a 29-9 lead into halftime.

In the second half, BA relied on their defensive pressure to control the contest as they held ASC to just 11 points and scored 17 points to secure the victory.

Alexis Byrd powered the Lady Cougars with 16 points and four rebounds. Hillary Wilson contributed 14 points and was the leader on the boards with six rebounds. Mary Claire White provided five points and grabbed five rebounds. Anna Kathryn Smith dished out seven assists and scored four points.

Klancis Fair was the offensive leader for the Lady Rebels with 10 points.

Brookhaven Acad. 51, ASC 28

In the boys contest, BA took charge early as they overpowered the Rebels with a 12-4 run in the first and second quarter to take a commanding 24-8 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Cougars (12-9, 3-1) continued their dominance in the third quarter with a 17-8 run to lead 41-16.

In the final quarter, ASC outscored the Cougars 16-10 but could not overcome BA’s large lead.

Austin Smith directed the Cougars charge with 18 points. Peyton Hood had a double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Caleb Brown chipped in with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Mason Conerly paced the Rebels with 11 points. Joseph McCaffery provided eight points.
