Panthers dominate Jefferson County

The Brookhaven Panthers managed to extend their winning streak to five games after defeating the Jefferson County Tigers 76-42 in a non-divisional contest Tuesday night at Sinclair Gymnasium.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Panthers (0-17) suffered a tough loss to the Jefferson County Lady Tigers.
Brookhaven resumes action Friday night as they host the Pearl River Central Blue Devils for a big Region 6-5A varsity doubleheader. The girls contest starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ game.

The Panthers high-octane offense and smothering defense quickly overwhelm the Jefferson County Tigers in the first half of action as Ole Brook took control of the first quarter with a 25-16 run and dominated the Tigers in the second quarter with a 12-2 run to take a 37-18 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers outscored Jefferson County 39-24 in the final two frames of action to cruise to the win.
The Panthers (15-2, 1-0) provided a balance scoring attack against the Tigers as Damarius Brook lead the charge with 13 points and seven assists. Darrian Wilson contributed 12 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Tavis Moore powered the Panthers on the boards with 11 rebounds and scored four points. Garrick Smith, Lazorian McNulty and Marte Jones chipped in with eight points apiece.
Tyriq Reese provided assistants with seven points. Darius Bryant scored five points. Randy Wilson had four points. Danarius Gray added three points. Alex Benson and Shon Blackwell scored two points each.
