BA fall twice to ACCS

NATCHEZ – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars suffered two disappointing setbacks against the Adams County Christian Schools Rebels in MAIS District 5AA basketball action Tuesday night.
In the girls contest, the Lady Cougars fell to the Lady Rebels 50-40.
In boys action, the Rebels overwhelmed the Cougars to gain a 54-34 victory.
Brookhaven Academy will be in action tonight as they travel to Liberty to face the Amite School Center Rebels for four games. The junior varsity girls are schedule to begin at 4 p.m. and JV boys at 5 p.m., The girls varsity squad is set to start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.
ACCS 50, BA 40
The Lady Rebels came out and quickly jumped on the Lady Cougars in the first half as they went on a 19-11 run in the first quarter and continued it in the second quarter with a 16-7 run to lead at halftime 35-18.
In the second half, the Lady Cougars (7-17, 3-2)rallied back to outscored the Lady Rebels 22-15 in the final two frames, but could not overcome ACCS lead to squeeze out the win.
Hillary Wilson was the offensive leader for the Lady Cougars with 13 points and five rebounds. Mary Claire White contributed 10 points and grabbed three rebounds. Anna Michael Smith was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds and scored six points. Bailey Stewart provided assistances on the boards with six rebounds and added four points.
Bailey Boyd directed the Lady Rebels’ offense with 12 points. Anna McDaniel chipped in with nine points.
ACCS 54, BA 34
In the boys contest, the Cougars and the Rebels battled in a close contest as both teams fought to a 12-tie at the end of the first quarter of action.
In the second quarter, the Rebels’ offense caught fire and outscored BA 15-4 to carry a 27-16 lead into halftime.
In the second half, ACCS continued their offenisve aggressiveness and overwhelm the Cougars with a 13-8 run in the third quarter and a 14-10 push in the final period to secure the win.
Peyton Hood was the top scorer fort he Cougars with 16 points and seven rebounds. Caleb Brown chipped in with 13 points and had three rebounds.
Brandon Brooks powered the Rebels with 15 points. Lester Wells contributed 10 points. Tyler Stockhill and Trey Fleming provided nine points each.
