Wesson Cobras split Franklin Co.

WESSON -The Franklin County Bulldogs traveled to Wesson Tuesday night to face the Cobras for Region 7-3A basketball action at the Snake Pit.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cobras fell to the Lady Bulldogs in a final score of 59-49.
In boys’ action, the Cobras and Bulldogs played a tight game with the Cobras pulling a 73-65 win.
The Bulldogs return home to host the Hazlehurst Indians Friday night for more division action.
The Cobras will travel to Crystal Springs Friday night to face the Tigers. For both teams, girls play at 6:00 and the varsity boys play at 7:30.
Franklin County 59, Wesson 49
The Lady Cobras (8-12, 0-3) battled but couldn’t overcome the Lady Bulldogs (8-3, 2-0) Tuesday night in a tough 59-49 loss.
Top Lady Cobra player, senior Kayla Britt had a point total of 15 with 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Junior Jashia Smith, scored a total of 13 points and had 11 rebounds. The Lady Cobras averaged 15/25 from the free throw line.
Wesson coach Rusty Newman commented, “The girls played well in spurts but we still make too many little mistakes and can’t finish a game. ”
Franklin County’s Jada Hunt and Jaylin Autmann both scored 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Hunt had 3 steals and Autmann had 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Other top players were Tayla Hunt with 11 points and 4 steals and Brianta O’Quinn who added 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. The Lady Bulldogs were 15/27 in free throw action.
Lady Bulldog coach, Rickey O’Quinn was stated after the game, “The girls had to battle through foul trouble which gave big minutes to the bench and the girls rallied when the score got close. It was a good basketball game and I’m proud of them.”
Wesson 73, Franklin County 65
The Franklin County Bulldogs (10-6, 0-3) took an early lead but the Cobras (16-3, 3-0) took over and pulled out the win with a final score of 73-65.
For the Cobras’, junior Anthony Jones scored 24 points and had 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Seniors Farrod Green and Dartavious Dixon had 15 points each. Green had 9 rebounds and 1 steal and Dixon had 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist. The Cobras were 23/32 in free throws.
Wesson coach Rusty Newman said after the game, “The guys played with a lot of intensity. They played good offense and got everyone involved. I’m proud of the guys for this good team win.”
For the Bulldog’s, Vincent Briggs, Jr. totaled 22 points, six rebounds and had one steal. Trianthony Hunt was another top player with a point total of 19, had 3 steals and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs had an average of 12/17 in free throw action.
“Defensively, this was a bad game,” commented Rickey O’Quinn, Bulldog coach. “We allowed way too many layups and fouled too much. We have to play better defense.”
