Gibson lifts Lady Wolves past Jones, Men fall

ELLISVILLE – Co-Lin’s Tyra Gibson potential game winning shot with 8 seconds left in the game lifted the Lady Wolves past the Jones County Lady Bobcats 93-92 Thursday night in women’s South Division JUCO basketball action in Ellisville. The win kept Co-Lin’s undefeated season alive at 19-0 and 10-0 in division play.
In the men’s contest, the Wolves entered in with hopes of knocking off the Bobcats but fell to Jones County 85-70.
Co-Lin returns home to host the East Central Warriors Monday in Mullins Gymnasium for more South Division action. The women’s game will start at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.
Co-Lin 93, Jones Co. 92
The Lady Wolves and the Lady Bobcats provided a great epic battle for their basketball fans in the gym and on the radio as both teams fought hard from start to finish.
In the first half of action, the Lady Bobcats quickly jump on the Lady Wolves to start the contest and grabbed a big lead as Co-Lin trailed at halftime 54-48.
In the second half, the battle continued with Jones County maintaining a comfortable lead over the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin made several attempts to rally back throughout the game, but the Lady Bobcats managed to end Co-Lin’s run and rebuild their hold on the lead.
With 2:44 left in the contest, the Lady Wolves, trailing Jones County 90-76, put together an amazing comeback as they outscored the Lady Bobcats 17-2 run. Tyra Gibson scored the potential game winning shot on a put back to give Co-Lin the lead at 93-92 with 8 second left.
Jones County tried to spoil Co-Lin’s miracle comeback after advancing the ball to half court to take a quick timeout for the final play with 2 seconds left. On the inbound play by the Lady Bobcats resulted in a traveling violation giving the Lady Wolves the win.
Co-Lin had five players to score in double figures as Kelley Allen led the charge with a double-double performance of 22 points and 11 rebounds. Claresa Banks pumped in 20 points. Alexis Collins chipped in with 14 points. Jamilah Sanders contributed 12 points and Tyra Gibson netted 11 points.
Taylor Baudion directed the Lady Bobcats’s offense with a game-high 38 points and nine rebounds. Alyson Johnson provided 14 points. Starla Daggans cashed in 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kadie Parker scored 11 points and Aliyah Bell added 10 points.
Jones Co. 85, Co-Lin 70
In the men’s games, the Wolves and the Bobcats also provided an entertaining matchup as both teams fought in a close contest as Jones County carried a 46-39 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Wolves (5-14, 3-7) came out and made several attempts to take over the game but Jones County managed to put the contest out of reach with a late 10-point run to secured the win.
Donte Watson was the offensive leader for the Wolves with 20 points and five rebounds. Chris Williams contributed 12 points and lead on the boards with six rebounds. Dearius Griffin scored 10 points.
Jones County placed five players in double figures as Bryce Jones led the pace with 24 points and eight rebounds. Christopher Rice and Otis Harvey netted 13 points each. Rodrigus Palmer chipped in with 12 points and Bryce Perry scored 10 points. Rice also helped on the boards with eight rebounds.
