BA hosts South State AA Tournament Monday

PRENTISS – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars were defeated 47-22 by the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels in the 5AA girls championship contest Saturday night.

In the boys consolation contest, the Cougars escaped with a 35-32 victory over the Prentiss Christian School Saints.

In boys action, the Cougars suffered a tough 48-44 loss to Central Hinds.

Brookhaven Academy returns home to host the South AA State championship this week at John R. Gray Gymnasium. Tournament times and opponents are currently unavailable at press time so check Tuesday edition of the DAILY LEADER for the schedule.

ACCS 47, BA 22 

The Lady Rebels quickly set the tone of the contest as they grabbed a 8-2 over BA and cruised to a 18-11 lead at halftime.

In the second half, ACCS continued to overpower BA with a 12-8 run in the third quarter and a 17-3 run in the fourth quarter to win the girls’ District 5AA championship.

Anna Kathryn Smith was the top scorer for the Lady Cougars with 12 points. Hillary Wilson led on the boards with nine rebounds and scored three points. Anna Michael Smith contributed five points and grabbed five rebounds.

BA 35, PCS 32 

The Cougars rebounded after a tough loss Friday afternoon to win and advance to the South State AA Tournament. BA had a tough battle on their hands as they trailed PCS 22-18 at halftime.

In the second half, the Cougars managed to take over the game with a 17-10 run in the final two quarter for the win.

Peyton Hoods was the leader for the Cougars with 15 points. Caleb Brown contributed eight points, Ross Felder scored six points. Austin Smith added four points and Drake Flowers had two points.

Josh Daley directed the Saints with 16 points and Blake Greenlee chipped in with 14 points.

BA 36, Central Hinds 23 

The Lady Cougars of BA came out strong in the first quarter to claim a commanding 17-2 lead, before Central Hinds took over the game and outscored BA 21-19 in the final three quarters of action. Central Hinds did not score enough to spoil BA victory as the Lincoln County-based Lady Cougars earn the victory.

Anna Kathryn Smith direct BA’s offensive attack with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Alexis Byrd and Hillary Wilson contributed eight points apiece. Byrd was the leader on the boards with nine rebounds. Mary Claire White chipped in with four points and seven rebounds. Anna Michael Smith also scored four points and grabbed six rebounds. Bailey Stewart helped on the boards with six rebounds and added two points.
