Brown, a graduate of McComb High School, was selected in a vote by league sports information directors. He’ll be nominated for the national player of the week award that will be announced later this week.

Brown went 2-for-3 in a season opening 9-4 win over Bishop State. The center fielder hit two doubles and knocked in two RBIs while also drawing a walk. It was in game two of the doubleheader that Brown really showed out. Up to bat in the second inning with the bases loaded, Brown smashed a grand slam homerun to left-center field. He finished game two with six RBIs in a 10-3 Co-Lin victory and also stole two bases in the doubleheader. Brown was named state and national player of the week once as a freshman.
