CLINTON, Miss. — Freshman Stacey Mack scored a career-high 23 points, but the Mississippi College men’s basketball team had their four-game winning streak snapped with a 73-66 loss to The University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The McComb High product went 7-of-11 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line, also knocking down both of his three-point opportunities. Mack pulled down four rebounds and blocked two shots on the night, as well.
The Chargers (18-7, 13-6 GSC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the Choctaws (11-10, 9-10 GSC) answered with a 14-5 run to take the lead as Mack scored 11 of MC’s first 14 points.
The rest of the first half went back and forth until UAH grabbed a little control with a 40-34 halftime advantage as Justin Ward hit a jumper in the final seconds. Ward scored 30 points off the bench for the Chargers.
In the second half, MC would trail by as many as 12 with 7:22 remaining, but a jumper by senior Emmanuel Ezejiofo with 1:03 remaining cut the score to 70-66.
On the Chargers’ next possession, junior Tory Rice appeared to have drawn a charge, but the officials saw differently and UAH knocked down both free throws. The Choctaws could not cut into the lead any further the rest of the way.
Rice tallied 13 points and seven rebounds for MC, while junior Tristan Moore scored nine points with five assists on four rebounds coming off the bench.
At halftime of the women’s game, the four Choctaw seniors were honored in Jay Case, Jaron Edwards, Ezejiofo and Rayner Fredrick.
Taylor Chapman had 11 points off the bench for UAH as they went 14-of-34 (41%) from the three-point line.
The Choctaws will be on the road for their final three games of the regular season, opening on Thursday night at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. at 7:00 pm (Central).
