Lady Jackets sting Mize, Bulldogs clip Enterprise

The Enterprise Yellow Jackets and the Mize Bulldogs gathered on the hardwood Friday night as both teams looked to gain momentum heading into next week’s district tournament.

In the varsity girls’ contest, Mize was no competition as they Lady Jackets stormed past the Lady Bulldogs 69-31.

In the varsity boys’ game, Mize escaped Enterprise with a 64-63 win.

Enterprise returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Liberty for opening night of the Region 7-2A tournament. The Enterprise girls will battle Bassfield at 7 p.m.. The Jackets draw the home-standing Amite County Trojans with tip-off beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Enterprise 69, Mize 31 

Senior night proved to be a memorable one by night’s end for the Enterprise Lady Jackets. In the first of action, the Lady Jackets charged out of the gates to claim a 22-2 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

The high-octane offense continued for the Lady Jackets (14-13, 1-9) throughout the second quarter as they roared to a 41-14 advantage at halftime.

The second half was no different than the first as Enterprise continued to dominate and cruised to a big home win.

The Lady Jackets had four players to score in double-figures for the game. Alissa Barlow and Megan Rippy each fired in 12 points for the Lady Jackets. Hannah Kirtfield and Michelle Herrington added 10 points apiece for Enterprise. Senior, Megan Rippy, powered the Jackets on the boards with seven rebounds. Another senior, Hannah Kirtfield led Enterprise with five steals.

Destiny Blackwell powered the Lady Bulldogs with nine points.

Mize 64, Enterprise 63 

In the varsity boys contest, Mize and Enterprise provided their fans with an exciting nail-biter all the way down to the buzzer. Both teams sprinted out to a fast start to begin the game as Mize jumped ahead of the home-standing Yellow Jackets 14-10 after one quarter of action.

The Bulldogs continued to extend their lead throughout the second quarter as they lead 35-22 at intermission.

In the second half, Enterprise (11-16, 2-8) didn’t show any quit as they outscored Mize 41-29 in the half.

In the final minute of the game provided a lot of drama as both teams attempted to finish the regular season with a victory. The Yellow Jackets, down by as much as 20 points in the third quarter, stormed all the way back to claim a 62-58 lead with under a minute left in regulation.

However, the Bulldogs nailed two big three-pointers in the final minute, including a back-breaker at the buzzer by Robert Barnes to erase the Yellow Jacket’s comeback and steal a win on the road.

Enterprise was led by a pair of eighth grader in the loss. Jontavious Smith scored 20 points and J.D. Allen fired in 18 points for the Jackets. Dwayne Pendleton added 12 points for Enterprise.

Wardarius Ducksworth carried the load for Mize with 24 points.
