Lady Bears and Bears advance in district tourney

LIBERTY – The West Lincoln Bears and Lady Bears captured a pair of wins in Region 7-2A Tournament action Tuesday night at Amite County High School.
In the girls game, the Lady Bears knocked off the East Marion Lady Eagles 35-27 to advance to the next round of the tournament.
In boys action, the Bears clobbered the Eagles 60-42 in the opening round of the tournament.
West Lincoln advances to the second round of the tournament and will play Thursday. The Lady Bears will face the Loyd Star Lady Hornets in the opener starting at 4 p.m. The Bears will play Bassfield in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m.
West Lincoln 35, East Marion 27
In the opening game of the district 7-2A matched, the No. 3 West Lincoln Lady Bears battled against the No. 6 East Marion Lady Eagles. Both teams fought in a sluggish first half of action at the neutral site. The Lady Bears managed to take a 10-5 lead in the first quarter.
In a tight defensive ball game, both teams led only by a few points in the second quarter as West Lincoln took a 12-9 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Lady Bears settled down in the third quarter and stretched the lead to 24-17. West Lincoln was able to capitalize at the free throw line during the fourth quarter and finish with a 35-27 win.
Hanna Moak led the Lady Bears in scoring with 13 points and seven rebounds. Layton Sills added nine points. Alli Mullins contributed five points.
West Lincoln 60, East Marion 42
In the second game of the evening paired the No. 3 West Lincoln Bears against the No. 6 East Marion Eagles. Both teams started the contest slow in the first half, which allowed the Bears to gain only a nine-point lead to close out the half 22-13.
In the second half, the Eagles charge back to narrow the lead to seven points as the third quarter closed with West Lincoln leading 37-30.
In the fourth quarter, the Bears outscored the Eagles 23-12 to seal up the win at 60-42.
Ronnie Edwards led the Bears with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Zekenith Porter chipped in 13 points. KeShaun London added six points and Lofton Sills five points. Javian Mackabee and Seth Bivens each scored four points.
