LaToya Evans, extension agent and coordinator of the event, said most people take care of the big items, such as land or a house. However, many people don’t address furniture or dishes.

“I don’t think a lot of people think about those items in the home or how sensitive it can be,” she said.

She said sometimes a father hunts and the son comes to associate a gun or other similar equipment with their father.

“It may be something he may want because it brings memories of his father,” Evans said.

Evans said people get in feuds that divide families.

“You’d be amazed how some people get so angry with each other,” she said.

Evans said if the family sits down beforehand, it can help appease everyone. She said it also helps to write down the items discussed.

Deberah Szczublewski said that she attended the seminar to help her family after she’s gone.

“It’s always that little thing you’ve forgotten,” she said. “I don’t want anyone bickering over it.”

The first meeting was held Wednesday, but turnout was low, likely due to the weather. Evans said many people registered beforehand that were not able to attend. For more information about the remaining seminars contact the extension office at 601-835-3460.
