Wesson ends St. Andrews season

WESSON- The Wesson Cobras hosted the St. Andrew’s Saints in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 3A State Playoffs and gained a big 80-59 win to continue in championship play with a final score of 80-59.

“We played well in spurts and we finished the game strong,” commented Cobra coach Rusty Newman. “St. Andrews played hard the whole game. We executed well offensively and got good shots and made them. I’m proud of my guys for getting this win. I hope we can keep it up.”

Wesson will face the Tylertown Chiefs in the second round of the state playoffs Saturday night in Tylertown. Game time is 7:00.

Wesson 80, St. Andrews 59

The Wesson Cobras entertained the St. Andrew’s Saints Tuesday night in the Snake Pit and captured the win to continue in championship play with a final score of 80-59.

The Cobras came out strong and took an early lead after two quarters of action. but the Saints battled back after halftime to take a lead in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Cobras answered the Saints’ challenge and stormed back to reclaimed the lead to come out on top.

Wesson’s junior guard Anthony Jones lead the team with 19 points and six rebounds. Other top players were sophomore Eric Rhymes with 15 points, three rebounds, one steal and five assists. Senior Farrod Green with 14 points, five rebound, one steal and five assists. The Cobras were 14 out of 21 from the free throw line.

The Saints top player was Parker Prater who had a point total of 19 and had three rebounds and one steal. Christian Scott had 14 points, three rebounds and four steals. The Saints had an average of 23 out of 35 in free throw action.
