Lady Hornets split season opener

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets capture a split decision in their season opener on the road as they fell to Pass Christian 7-6 in the second game, but won the first game 12-7 over George County in a early contest Saturday morning at George County’s Invitational Classic.

Loyd Star 12, George County 7 

Loyd Star and George County battled in a close contest in the first three innings of action as the Lady Hornets managed to claim a 7-6 lead.

In the final two innings, Loyd Star outscored George County 5-1 to secure the win.

Kelsie McCullough was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with no strikeouts and one walk. Meagan Poole pitched in relief for Loyd Star with no strikeouts and no walks.

Raigan Smith powered the Lady Hornets attack with a home run and a single. Abigail Thornton had a double and a single. Johnna Norman ripped pair of singles. Hitting safely were Brooks Rushing, Megan Norton, and McCullough.

Pass Christian 7, Loyd Star 

In the second game of the evening, the Lady Hornets came out strong and quickly claimed a 5-0 after two innings of action.

Pass Christian managed to push one run across the plate in the bottom of the third inning, but Loyd Star answered with one run in the top of the sixth inning.

Pass Christian managed to spoil Loyd Star’s victory in the bottom of the seventh inning as they pushed six runs across the plate to win 7-6.

Mackenzie Smith absorbed the setback for the Lady Hornets with two stikeouts and three walks.

Jeney Hudson was the winning pitcher for Pass Christian with five strikeouts and two walks.

Julie Smith powered the Lady Hornets at the plate with three singles. Raigan Smith, Abigail Thornton and Johnna Norman each ripped a double. Hitting safely were Madison Jones, Megan Norton and Ali Gartman.
