Puckett edge Lady Bears

PUCKETT-The West Lincoln Lady Bears traveled to Puckett to face the Puckett Lady Wolves in the first round of the Class 2A South State Playoffs Thursday night.
West Lincoln managed to capture the lead early by outscoring the Lady Wolves 12-5 in the first quarter. The Lady Bears continued to control the game in the second quarter and closed out the first half leading 22-14.
In the second half, Puckett came out and outscored the Lady Bears in the third quarter to cut down West Lincoln’s lead to 30-27.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Wolves continued their rally and managed to take over the lead, but the Lady Bears responded with a rally of their own as they trailed by two-points in the closing seconds.
In the final seconds, West Lincoln had a chance to tie or clinch the win, but was unable to score at the buzzer and lost 39-37.
Demeshia Deer had a double-double night to lead the Lady Bears’ offense with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jana Case added eight points and five rebounds. Hanna Moak contributed five points and had six rebounds. Layton Sills scored four points and grabbed five rebounds. Alli Mullins chipped in four points and had four rebounds.
The Lady Bears, coach by Lane Young, conclude their season with a 11-18 record and placed third in the Region 7-2A race with a 5-5 record.
