Funeral Services for Lawrence Calvin Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Hopewell M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery. Williams Morturary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, March 6, 2015, from 1 until 5 p.m. at Williams Morturary.

Mr. Smith, 62, died Feb. 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 22, 1952 in Lincoln County.

He was a high school graduate of Alexander High School and attended Jackson State University. He was a retired employee of the Mississippi State Tax Commission with 20 years of service. He was a member of Hopewell M.B. Church and had served on usher ministry, choir ministry, deacon ministry and as church pianist when needed. He was one of the first members of the Mississippi Mass Choir.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Jessie Mae Sandifer Ellison and Rev. Lee Ester Ellison; grandparents, Augusta and Mary Hampton Sandifer.

Survivors are his sister, Mae Joyce (Curtis) Smith of Brookhaven; cousins, Mary Lynn (Wilfort) Watson of Brookhaven; aunts, Gloria (Alvin) Hall of Jersey City, New Jersey and Willie Mae Perroquez of Dallas, Texas; devoted and special friend, Lillian (Waldo) Lilly of Brookhaven; his caregivers, Shiyama Tyler, Ruby Nell Dixon and Marilyn McGowan, all of Brookhaven; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends.
