She was a speech pathologist for the Hattiesburg School System. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Speed graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1950 and went on to study at Millsaps College in Jackson. After raising “the boys,” she continued her education earning a master’s in speech pathology under Dr. Dubbard at the University of Southern Mississippi.  She met her sweetheart, the late Charles Rembert Speed, on a blind date.  The couple was married the following year on Oct. 28, 1952 at First Methodist Church in Brookhaven, MS. Married for 47 years, Charles and Peggy raised their five children in Hattiesburg. She was a founding member of ShareCare, in addition to the countless hours spent serving the community through ministries such as the Women’s Abuse Center and the Bread Basket Food Ministry.   Peggy will be remembered for her compassion and incredible love for anyone she came into contact with. She consistently met complete strangers that she would pray for, witness to and encourage. She exemplified God’s grace and acceptance to all those she came in contact with; many of whom will forever be changed by her witness.

Preceding her in death were her husband; and two sons, Ronald Burt Speed and Clifton Eugene Speed.
