No. 1 Jones County sweeps Lady Wolves

ELLISVILLE – The No. 1 ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats swept a doubleheader from the Lady Wolves 15-0 in five innings and 5-4 in game 2. Co-Lin falls to 8-6 overall, 2-4 in the South Division. Jones remains undefeated on the season at 14-0, 4-0 in the South Division.

Jones County 15, Co-Lin 0 (5 innings) 

After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Bobcats took a 6-0 lead in the second inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Tylesha Davis.

Jones added three more runs in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead. Kayleigh Williams led off the inning with a solo home run to left field.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Bobcats exploded for six more runs. Lauren Holifield hammered a three-run home run over the center field wall.

Jones’ Holifield (two hits, four RBIs),Tori Dew (two hits, two RBIs), Davis (two hits, three RBIs) and Williams (one hit, one RBI) combined for seven hits and 10 RBIs in the game as Jones pounded out 15 hits off Co-Lin pitching.

Co-Lin’s Rheagan Welch suffered the loss allowing five runs on five hits and walking one in 1.2 innings of work. Payton Sheffield relieved Welch in the second giving up two earned runs on three hits. Kaitlyn Taylor threw the final two innings allowing six earned runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.

The Lady Wolves managed three hits in the game. Savannah Johnston, Lauren Brashier and Taylor hit safely.

Williams picked up the win for Jones striking out five, walking one and scattering three hits in four innings. Lauren Welch pitched the final inning striking out one and not allowing a hit.

Jones County 5, Co-Lin 4 

Jones scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early lead. With two outs, Tylesha Davis hit her second home run of the day, a solo shot over the left field wall. Jay Harris laced a two-run triple to right field to put the Lady Bobcats up 3-0. Kalyn Watts doubled to score Harris.

Lauren Holifield hit her second home run of the day to give the Lady Bobcats a 5-0 lead.

Four runs in the top of the seventh helped the Lady Wolves close its deficit to 5-3. Jessica Crum earned a walk. Pinch runner Sam Lee advanced to second on Carmen Perry’s sacrifice. Kaitlyn Taylor drew a walk. Both runners advanced on Brittany Barbay’s single to right field to load the bases. Julian Johnson reached on an error that plated Lee. Greta Carley singled to score Taylor as the Lady Wolves pulled to 5-2. Adrienne Wallace’s single scored Barbay to make the score 5-3. Lauren Brashier doubled to centerfield plating Johnson. Carley was thrown out at home to end the game at 5-4.

Starter Lucy Lewis absorbed the loss allowing five runs on six hits and struck out one in 2.1 innings. Kamry Creel relieved Lewis in the third inning. Creel gave up two hits in 3.2 scoreless innings.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Brashier doubled (one RBI). Wallace (one RBI), Carley (one RBI), Crum and Barbay added support with a single.

Teri Richey picked up the win for Jones giving up four runs on two hits, struck out five and walked three. Kayleigh got the final out of the game to pick up the save.

Offensively for Jones, Kalyn Watts doubled and singled (one RBI). Holifield and Davis homered. Harris tripled for two RBIs.
