Prairie View A&M edges Alcorn State in SWAC finale

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) – Montrael Scott poured in 31 points and Tre Hagood added 20 – including a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left – as Prairie View A&M closed out the regular season with an 83-80 win over Alcorn State on Saturday night.
Scott hit 9 of 16 shots, including 5 3-pointers, and was a perfect 8 of 8 from the foul line to score his career-high 31.
Prairie View (14-17, 12-6 SWAC), which has won eight of nine, closed out the regular season as the No. 4 seed to the SWAC tournament in Houston.
Alcorn State (5-25, 4-14) was led by LeAntwan Luckett’s 20 points and 18 from Reginald Johnson. The Braves sliced a 12-point Prairie View lead to 81-80 when Tamarico Wilson stole the ball from Hagood – his only steal of the game – and scored a layup with 42 seconds left. Wilson finished with 14 points.
