Brookhaven’s Springfield, Dillon, Trunner advances to State

PEARL – The Ole Brook Power Panthers cashed in a few tickets to the State Powerlifting Championships next month with a solid showing at the Class 5A South State meet in Pearl.

Stephen Springfield won the 242-weight class with a total of 1,440 pound. Springfield also won best heavyweight lifter award. Jared Dillon placed second in the 275-weight class with a total of 1,320 pounds. Dillon narrowly missed first place by 10 lbs. Jay Trunner placed second in 198-weight class with a total of 1,215 pounds.

Jon Mark Mathis finished in sixth in 165-weight class with total of 900 pounds. Davion McCoy came in fifth in 242 class with a total of 1,145 pounds. Kieron Williams placed sixth in 275 class with a total of 1,165 pounds. Tristan Peavey was sixth in 308-weight class with a total of 1,155 pounds. Jeffrey Johnson finished in fifth place in 308 class with a total of 1,135 pounds.

“I’m really proud of this team and the guys,” said Ole Brook Power Panthers coach Russ Britt. “We’ve came a very long way in the last four years.”

Springfield, Dillon, and Trunner all advance to the State meet April 18th in the Mississippi Coliseum.

“Hopefully all three of the guys finish the State meet as State champs in their classes,” added Britt. “They will be working the next few weeks toward that.”
