The Loyd Star Hornets defeated the Bassfield Yellowjackets 11-1 Tuesday night in Region 7-2A baseball action at Smith Field.

“Caleb came out and pitched a great game, especially for only his second stint on the mound for the year,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “We started out a little sluggish, but we managed to get our bats going after the second inning. Overall, we still need to clean up on some things on our defense and base running.”

The Hornets (4-3, 1-0) will resume action Friday night as they travel to Bassfield to take on the Yellowjackets for Game Two of the division series. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
