Wesson tames Crystal Springs Tigers

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras defeated the Crystal Springs Tigers Friday night to close out the Region 7-3A baseball series with a 14-1 win.

The Cobras will take a week off before returning to action Saturday as they travels to Summit to play the North Pike. Game time is 3 p.m.

Wesson 14, Crystal Springs 1 

The Wesson Cobras dominated the Crystal Springs Tigers Friday night as the Cobras racked the runs on the scoreboard to finish the night with a 14-1 win in four innings.

Cobras’ pitcher, Justin Boone, threw seven strikeouts and three walks. He also assisted with fielding two outs from the pitchers mound.

“This was my first time pitching since the jamboree, and it felt good as soon as I found my fastball,” Boone said.

Top hitter for the Cobras was Jeremy Smith with two doubles and a single (RBI-3). Tyler McLeod hit a double, and Jimmie McQuage, Justin Boone and Mac McQuage all hit singles. Mack Smith fielded four outs on first base.

Crystal Springs’ pitcher, John Brown, threw four strikeouts and walked six batters. Relief pitcher for the Tigers, Keith Johnson pitched two strikeouts and had two walks.

“We got off to a slow start and picked it up and started hitting,” Wesson Coach Seth Loftin said. “Justin pitched really well on the mound, and it was a good game offensively for the team. It’s good to get two district wins this week.”

 In JV action,  The Cobras also had a good showing against the Tigers with a final score of 15-3.

Cobra pitcher Alex Mooney threw eight strikeout. Peyton Burns hit a two-RBI home run, and Will Hulon had two doubles. Other top JV hitters were Preston Adams and Peyton Selman with two singles each.
