Bobcats defeat Wolves 7-2 in tennis action

ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College men’s tennis team handed the Co-Lin Wolves their first loss of the season, 7-2, at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts. Co-Lin falls to 3-1 while the Bobcats improved to 6-1.

The Wolves picked up wins at No. 1 doubles as Dwain Perkins and Will Pennington edged Graham Lightsey and Eric Swisher 9-7. The Bobcats Josiah Lim and Austin Baskin beat Braxton Hinton and Drake Nelson in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Robert Kiewit and Josh Hester whipped Brandon Nettles and Coleman Carraway in No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

In singles action, Perkins defeated JCJC’s Lightsey in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Lim whipped Pennington 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles, while Swisher rallied past Hinton in a tie-breaker at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 6-3, 10-7. Baskin beat Nettles in No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Kiewit downed Nelson in No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Hester edged Carraway in another tie-breaker at No. 6 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. JCJC’s Taylor Tamberg won an extra match over Steve Del Cid, 6-4, 6-2.

The Wolves travel to Holmes on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
