Pearl River Central thumps Brookhaven

CARRIERE – The Brookhaven Panthers suffered a tough loss in Region 6-5A baseball action Thursday night falling to the Pearl River Central Blue Devils 11-1.

The Panthers (4-9, 2-1) will return to action Tuesday as they host the Wingfield Falcons for a doubleheader varsity contest, starting at 5 p.m.

The Blue Devils came out strong and quickly overpowered the Panthers in the bottom of the first inning as they scored four runs to claim a 4-0.

In the top of the third inning, the Panthers managed to get on the scoreboard by scoring one run to cut PRC’s lead down to 4-1. In the bottom of the third inning. the Blue Devils would answer score one run as well to push their lead back to a four run advantage.

In the fourth and fifth inning, Pearl River Central would outscored the Panthers 6-0 to win the contest in five innings.

Cody Miller was the winning pitcher on the mound for the Blue Devils with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Penn Wilson suffered the setback for the Panthers with six strikeouts and eight walks.

Brandon Henyard was the top hitter at the plate for Brookhaven with two singles. Tate Walley, Penn Wilson and Reese Reynaud hit safely.

Wesley Mitchell, Mason Songy and Jeshua Lee paced the Blue Devils’ offense with a single each.
