James Arnold ‘Buddy’ Compton
Funeral Services for James Arnold “Buddy” were Monday, April 6, 2015 at 2 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home with burial at Rockhill Cemetery in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Rev. Greg Camp officiated.ˇ
Visitation was Monday, April 6, from 1 until 2 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home of Idabel, Oklahoma.ˇ Pallbearers were James Lane Nunnery, Christopher Daniel Nunnery, Michael Sean Compton, Jason Brett Wells, Steven Guy Williams and Robert Alan Hodges.ˇ Honorary pallbearers were Mason Lomax and Flint Welch.ˇ
Mr. Compton, 86, died on April 3, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, pawpaw and friend.ˇ Though he was born in Oklahoma, his entire life, he has had a strong work ethic.ˇ This encouraged travel through the years with work eventually settling in McComb.ˇ He has touched many lives with his kindness through friendship all over the country as he was a member of the Army, serving in the Korean War as well as a cross country truck driver.ˇ Since he retired, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and when the weather was right, a little fishing.
James was born Feb. 1, 1929 in the Honey Grove community of Oklahoma.ˇ He was the son of the late Frank James Compton and Thelma Swan Compton.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Glover Compton; his brothers, Lester Carroll Compton, Donald Wayne Compton and Charles William Compton; his brother-in-law, Erwin Underwood; and his sons, James Michael Compton and David Lee Compton.
He is survived by his sisters, Betty Compton Harwell and her husband, Henry, of Sachse, Texas and Nina “Tug” Compton Underwood of Sachse; his children, Jerry Wayne Compton and his wife, Regena, of Smithdale, Patricia Nunnery Dillon and her husband, Stephen, of Tylertown, Linda Compton Williams and her husband, Danny Guy, of Smithdale, Carol Compton Wells and her husband, Joey, of Bogue Chitto, Laura Compton Hodges and her husband, Robert, of Bogue Chitto, Larry Arnold Compton of Quinlin, Texas, Mary Compton Lomax of McComb and John David Compton and his wife, Sabrina, of Quinlin; his grandchildren, James Lane Nunnery and his wife, Emily, of Houston, Texas, Christopher Daniel Nunnery of Cold Springs, Texas, Paula Dianne Nunnery of Cedar Park, Texas, Jobina Mei Khoo of Hattiesburg, Steven Guy Williams and his wife, Audrey, of Smithdale, Michael Sean Compton of McComb, Kathy Ann Compton of McComb, Krista Wells and her husband, William Speights, of Brookhaven, Jason Brett Wells of McComb, Monika Hodges Price and her husband, William, of Bogue Chitto, Robert Alan Hodges of Bogue Chitto, Kenneth “Mason” Lomax of McComb, Matthew “Flint” Welch of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Amanda Michelle Welch of New Orleans, Louisiana; his great-grandchildren, Brittney Nunnery Martin and Michael of Norfolk, Virginia, Brenna Paige Nunnery of Nacogdoches, Texas, and soon-to-be Jase Cole Price of Bogue Chitto; his nieces and nephews, Lisa Harwell Camp and her husband, Greg, of Sachse, Dennis Harwell and his wife, Susan, in Telephone, Texas, Jimmy Underwood of Idabel and Stephen Camp of Sachse, Texas; and his beloved dog, Mr. Rex.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff and doctors from Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, King Daughter’s Hospital, St. Luke’s Home Health and Hospice, Dr. Henry Lewis, Rev. Richard Cothern, and friends for their kindness, prayers, and support over the last few months during James’s final journey here on earth.
