Enterprise takes twinbill over East Marion

The Enterprise Yellow Jackets clinched third place in the Region 7-2A baseball action Friday night after sweeping a varsity doubleheader over the East Marion Eagles at Enterprise.
The Jackets defeated the Eagles 6-1 in game one and edge East Marion in the late nightcap 10-9.
“Great win for us,” said Enterprise coach Cass Brister. “The two wins helped us clinch third place, which hopefully will help us a little in the playoffs. I am very proud of my guys. They fought through a lot of adversity and found a way to win.”
Enterprise (9-10, 6-4) is scheduled to be in action Tuesday as they host the Lawrence County Cougars before beginning their playoff march. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
Enterprise 6, East Marion 1
The Jackets and the Eagles battled in a scoreless contest in the first four innings of game one before taking over the game with a four run surge in the fifth inning to claim a 4-0 lead.
The Eagles would battled back and cut into Enterprise’s lead in the top of the sixth inning scoring only one run, but the Jackets would answer in the bottom of the sixth inning by adding two more runs to secure the win.
Landon Gartman pitched the win in game one for Enterprise with 10 strikeouts and four walks.
Quitman Smith took the lost for East Marion with five strikeouts and eight walks.
Tanner Waldrop powered the Jackets attack at the plate with two singles. Brady Watts provided a double. Hitting safely were Max Miller, Josh Hardin and Zach Hodges.
Quitman Smith contributed the only hit on offense for the Eagles with a single.
“This was a huge win,” said Brister. “It helped us to get off to a great start in the doubleheader. Landon did a great job on the mound and our defense played much better than we have in the past.”
Enterprise 10, East Marion 9
In the nightcap, the Jackets and the Eagles battled in a back-and-forth contest as East Marion came out strong and commanded a 5-0 lead after four innings of action.
Enterprise would managed to get the offense clicking in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to rally back with a nine run surge to secure the lead at 9-5.
In the last two innings of action, the Eagles would outscore the Jackets 4-1, but Enterprise managed to break up East Marion’s bottom of the seventh inning rally by securing the final out to capture the win.
Josh Hardin was the winning pitcher for the Jackets with four strikeouts and four walks.
Jaylin Akins suffered the lost for the Eagles with five strikeouts and five walks.
Waldrop paced Enterprise’s offense with a double and two singles. Watts contributed two doubles. Reese Brocato, Layne Brown and Hardin hit safely.
Anthony Ingram was the top hitter for the Eagles with a double and a single. Jarveon Howard and Karon Penry provided two singles each. Akins had a double. Deshodrick Belton and Ricky Johnson hit safely.
