LCHS Lady Cougars crush Columbia

COLUMBIA – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars crushed the Columbia Lady Wildcats 16-0 to capture a big Region 7-4A victory Friday night in softball action.

The Lady Cougars (17-5, 4-3) will return to Purvis Monday to finish a make-game that was postponed last Tuesday due to rain. Lawrence County will host Bogue Chitto Tuesday for senior night. Junior varsity action is at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Cougars came out and quickly took care of business as they hammered the Columbia Lady Wildcats 16-0 in five innings of action Friday night

Lawrence County exploded in the third inning with a 12-run blast to put the game out of reach after scoring only one run in the first inning.

The Lady Cougars scored in the third on an RBI single by Elizabeth Smith, an RBI single by Madison Hyde, an RBI double by Alexsundria Thomas and a two-run home run by Tiera Collins.

Elizabeth Smith had an impressive outing against Columbia. She gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six during her three innings of work. Jordan Harp (3K, 0BB) pitched the final two innings in relief.

Collins sparked the Lady Cougars offense with a home run. Madison Hyde fueled the flames with a double and a single. Elizabeth Smith and Alexsundria Thomas provided a double and a single each. Callie Fortenberry contributed three singles. Jamie Martin, Lexie Johnson and Sydney Pevey hit safely.
