Lady Pioneers sweep North Pike

SUMMIT – The North Pike Lady Jaguars fell to the Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers in a varsity double header Tuesday night in fastpitch softball action.

The Lady Pioneers defeated the Lady Jags 3-1 in Game One and rallied back to edge North Pike 7-6 in Game Two.

The Lady Jaguars (13-8, 8-0), coached by Sonya Wallace, will begin their playoff run Monday as they wait on the winner of Region 5 No. 2 versus Region 8 No. 3.

Parklane 3, North Pike 1 

In a friendly warm up contest before starting the MHSAA playoffs, the Lady Jaguars battled MAIS powerhouse house, the Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers.

In Game One, both teams fought in a close contest as North Pike took a 1-0 in the first inning, but Parklane battled back to tie the contest at 1-all in the second inning.

The Lady Pioneers managed to capture the lead in the top of the third inning after plating one run to lead 2-1 and relied on their defense to keep North Pike from scoring through the rest of the game.

Parklane Academy would add another run to their lead to win the game 3-1.

Mikaela Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Pioneers with five strikeouts and one walk.

Madison Bigner suffered the setback of the rubber for North Pike with five strikeouts and three walks.

Baylee Bryant was the top hitter for the Lady Jags with two singles. Hitting safely were Madison Bigner and Jenna Brock.

Taylor Murray paced the Lady Pioneers’ offense with a double and a single. Morgan Webb, Kymberly McDowell and Callie Snow hit safely.

Parklane 7, North Pike 6 

In Game Two, the Lady Jags came out and quickly grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first two innings of action, but the Lady Pioneers would rallied back in the bottom of the fourth inning with a seven-run explosion to take the lead at 7-4.

North Pike would battle back in the top of the fifth and sixth innings scoring one run in each inning, but failed to score in the seventh inning to force extra innings or capture the win.

Hannah Creek (2K, 0BB) Mary McLean (0K, 0BB) and Mikaela Smith (2K, 0BB) combine pitching efforts helped the Lady Pioneers collect the win on the mound.

Madison Bigner absorbed the setback for the Lady Jags with two strikeouts and one walk.

Jordan Fitzgerald directed the Lady Jaguars offense with a double and a single. Janiah Talbert, Madison Bates and Bigner provided two singles each. Jami Spear had a double and Jenna Brock hit a single.

Murray powered the Lady Pioneers offensive attack with a double. Destini Brown, Kymberly McDowellm Carrington Jeffcoat, Lana Moak, Callie Snow and Elizabeth Platt hit safely.
