WESSON – Hits were not in short supply on Wednesday as Copiah-Lincoln and Gulf Coast combined for 55 in their doubleheader at Sullivan Field. Co-Lin rallied from an early seven run deficit to take game one 19-14.

In game two, Co-Lin again fought back from an early hole, but could not hold off a late Gulf Coast charge as the Bulldogs took an 8-7 win.

Co-Lin 19, Gulf Coast 14 

The two teams combined for 33 runs and 35 hits, including 10 extra base hits. A combined six pitchers were used in the game.

Gulf Coast jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first. The scoring began with a single by Patrick McMahon. Richard Clark doubled, scoring Justin Nussbaum. The scoreboard lit up again for Gulf Coast when McMahon and Clark scored on a two-run single by James Land. Land and Rachel scored on a two-run double by Christian Travis and Travis scored on an RBI single by Brycen Burge.

Gulf Coast brought home one run in the second inning and matched that run total in the third.

Co-Lin responded with a five-run inning of its own in the second. The Wolves scored on an RBI single by Justin Oliver, a two-run single by Jordan Antley, and a two-run home run by Austin Irby.

The Wolves added two more runs in the third when Kewaun May scored on a steal of home and Oliver knocked in an RBI single.

Sophomore Wesley Watts was superb at the plate and on the hill. Watts had a triple, two doubles, a single, three runs scored, a stolen base, and picked up the save after moving to the mound and recording the final three outs of the game.

Jackson Cole got the win for Co-Lin after allowing eight runs over 7.2 innings. He struck out five, walked two and surrendered 13 hits.

Irby, Antley, Watts and Austin Resser combined for 10 hits and seven RBIs. Co-Lin scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Gulf Coast 8, Co-Lin 7 

The Wolves again fell behind, this time they were down 6-0 after 2.5 innings. Co-Lin rallied to tie the game at 6-6 after six inning, before seeing the Bulldogs respond with two runs in the top of the inning to give Gulf Coast the win.

Choc Hubbard led Co-Lin with three hits, one double, and three RBIs. Austin Irby also had two hits for Co-Lin. Logan Smith hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh that cut the Gulf Coast lead to one with one away.

Austin Douglas suffered the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Co-Lin (14-24, 7-17 Division) next travels to Fulton on Saturday for a 2 p.m. first pitch with Itawamba.
