Alex Smith signs with Southwest

Alex Smith is taking his baseball talents to the next level. Brookhaven Academy’s infielder/outfielder has signed a baseball scholarship with the Southwest Community Junior College Bears.

Alex Smith, signed his official scholarship papers Tuesday in the Brookhaven Academy Library. He is the son of Tony and Judy Smith.

Smith is undecided on what major he would like to pursue.

“I am excited to be given this opportunity to play baseball at the college level,” said Alex Smith. “I have work hard for this moment. Southwest has a very good program, and I am excited to be joining them next year.”

In his senior year, Alex batted a .327 for the Cougars with four doubles, one triple and six RBIs.

“I am very proud of Alex for reaching his goal,” said Brookhaven Academy coach Casey Edwards. “His hard work and determination definitely paid off. He should able to contribute immediately at the next level.”
